Photography tours |Birds, flora and fauna in the mangrove forest
Description: Our favorite photography tour takes us 40 minutes south of Hotel Maya Luna. We will start this tour at the mouth of the Huach river. This is one of the most beautiful areas of the Xcalak reef national park.
Embarking on the kayaks, the journey starts through its channel. Here we can watch an interesting phenomenon of halocline. To clarify, this is a junction point of fresh water with salt water. In other words two waters with different densities that are part of a myriad of a curious physical-chemical phenomen.
While kayaking in the Huach river we will pass some beautiful scenarios. For example channels, estuaries and lagoons. So the mangrove forest will give us the opportunity to photograph migratory bird species that find refuge in their intricate roots.
After that, at the end of our adventure, Don Vicente will delight us with a meal. Most likely he prepares the catch of the day. Fresh fish with its particular taste and delicious “coastal style”. Of course your meal comes with handmade tortillas.

Consequently this gives us the opportunity to admire and take photos of a unique and incredible show. For example storks, pink and white Ibis, pink spoonbills, blue and white garzones, tiger herons, pelicans and seagulls are just some of the species that will delight our lens. As a result, lots of beautiful and unique moments to capture and perpetuate.

Description: This photography tour takes us to Xcalak, a 45 minute drive from Hotel Maya Luna. The Xcalak Reef Snorkeling Park is located 60 km south of the hotel, near the small fisherman village of Xcalak. The boat will take us to make a first Snorkel, where our lens will capture the most representative of the Mesoamerican reef with its coral colonies. After that we visit the new channel of Zaragoza, which joins the Caribbean Sea with the bay of Chetumal, Quintana Roo. Meanwhile we will visit the entrance of two caves and have the opportunity to photograph the mangrove jellyfish and the inverted jellyfish (Cassiopeia xamachana). Beautiful species that give us beautiful images during magical movements.
Natural border between Mexico and Belize
After that we will go to the natural border of Mexico Belize, the Boca Bacalar Chico river. This is a narrow sea channel that divides the southern end of the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and the Cape Ambergris in Belize. This journey is a beautiful experience. We will navigate through exuberant vegetation and extraordinary nature channels. With a bit of luck we will see a Manatee.
The Caribbean Sea welcomes us at the mouth of the river. Further we sail towards the geological formation called the pool, where the giant tarpons of Xcalak are protected.
After that, at the end of the tour, we can enjoy an exquisite coastal style meal in Xcalak. In addition, we visit the house of Doña Silvia, wife of a fisherman. We can walk in the streets of Xcalak to enjoy the architecture with Belize-an influences of this beautiful corner of Mexico.
In conclusion a perfect scenario for the photographic shot

Photography tours | Xcalak Jungle
Description: This tour takes us to the jungle of the Xcalak Arrecifes National Park. This is a Protected Natural Area located 60 kilometers from our starting point Hotel Maya Luna (some 45 min by car).
This is an outstanding paradise with unparalleled natural wealth in its ecosystem. To clarify, in terrestrial environments there are two types of forests. That is to say low deciduous forest and low flood forest. They depend on the degree of flooding they present during the rainy season. .
It is very well possible that these jungles and lagoons house some 155 birds, 27 amphibians and reptiles, and 31 mammals. Its almost certain that there are also jaguars living in the area. Certainly this will provide fantastic scenarios that give us the opportunity to photograph different flora and fauna typical of wetlands. In addition a large percentage of migratory birds visit this sanctuary in the months of December to February. During the wintertime they are looking for warm areas for reproduction and food. In short, your lens can not miss this experience.
